Four Steps to Ensuring a Successful Loft Conversion

But have you considered what it takes to make it a complete success? You certainly should be thinking about this, as therein lies the key to getting loft conversions right.

Take a look behind the scenes of any successful loft conversion before and after project and you’ll see that there are five steps which need to be followed to get things right. And the first step? Choose a company specialising in loft conversions that you can trust.

Step 1: Choose your Loft Conversion Company Wisely

For a successful loft conversion, you’ll need a loft conversion company that you can trust. Choosing it wisely is therefore key.

Make sure you speak to friends and family and gather recommendations and quotes from a few different loft conversion companies. Don’t just go with the cheapest company; often, you get what you pay for, but more than that, you need to find a company who fit with your vision for your loft space and also your lifestyle. Once you’ve got a good idea of which company you would like to use, ask them if you can see some recent references for work.

Step 2: The Best Laid Plans

Make sure you are involved with creating the plans at all stages. If your loft conversion company is able to contract an architect for you, then this cuts down on the amount of different companies that you have to liaise with, but similarly don’t be afraid to speak up if you don’t feel like your architect’s plans quite work for you. It’s better to get things right from the start rather than make costly mistakes further down the line.

Step 3: Get on Board with your Builders

The construction workers will be on site and in your home for a considerable amount of time, so it’s important that you’ve got a good relationship with them. Keep communicating with them, if you have any queries at all don’t be afraid to ask, and if you are supplying anything for the build, such as loft conversion fixtures and fittings, then make sure you have them ready to fit in good time, to ensure that you’re not holding up the build.

If you do all of the above, it will be much easier to raise any issues that you have. Having a good rapport with them will mean that you won’t need to worry if you feel like something isn’t quite up to your standards and you’d like it replaced or done again. And if all else fails, a good round of tea (and biscuits) goes a long way to building a bond with your builders!

Step 4: The Finishing Touches

Step 4 is the fun part! Make the space work for you. Create a mood board, either physically or online using a tool such as Pinterest, and gather your ideas together. Decorate in a way that makes you feel at home in your new space. And then, enjoy!
