If you’re worried about a lack of water pressure, especially when in a loft conversion bedroom which is fed from a plumbing system that starts at the bottom of the house, an innovative way to make your shower water go further is by fitting an aerator. Aerators act a bit like a sieve, pushing the water into separate streams and mixing it with air. This gives the same overall pressure, but with a reduced flow.
No major work or plumbing knowledge is required to fit an aerator and it can mean the difference between 15 litres of water per minute from an older tap to 6 litres with an aerator. And the best bit? For everyday tasks like washing your hands or rinsing your toothbrush, you won’t even notice the difference.
LED Lighting
If your loft conversion bathroom is dependent on artificial light, opt for eco-friendly LED lights. Not only do LEDs last around 40 times longer than standard incandescent light bulbs, they also use up to 90% less energy, too.
Energy Efficient Extractors
Similarly, if your loft conversion bathroom relies on an extractor fan for ventilation, there are energy efficient options available. These can provide you with up to 60% energy savings. If you’re still in the planning stages of designing your loft conversion bathroom, see if there’s a possibility of including a small window for natural ventilation. Although extractor fans are only switched on for a short amount of time, they use a large amount of energy.
