Roof Design Inspiration for Loft Conversions

02.08.17

Choose from flat roofs through to saltbox roofs and opt for something to suit your property’s style.

If you’re creating a loft conversion as part of a new build, or are having your roof totally replaced, have you considered the fact that you could do something pretty stylish with your roof design? After all, it’s not just the inside of the loft conversion that deserves some styling.

Here are some roof design ideas for your London loft conversion that you may not have thought of:

Partial Flat Roof

Flat roofs used to be something of a design faux pas, but modern flat roofs can give a contemporary feel to a property. Of course, it’s rare that any roof is truly flat, as there’s a need for water and debris to run off it, but by adding a full-width dormer to your loft conversion, you will have a modern partial flat roof look.

Furthermore, if you have a flat roof extension which goes beyond the roofline of your home, why not see if this can be turned into a terrace or roof garden which your new loft conversion can open onto?

Curved Roof

A curved roof creates a contemporary twist on any home. If you’re designing a new build property and want something that will stand out from the crowd, consider a completely curved roof.

However, if you don’t want something that is too outlandish, consider topping your dormer windows with a curved roof rather than a flat roof for a curved look whilst retaining some traditional style.

Saltbox Roof

A saltbox roof slopes down to almost the base of the building. This means that the ground floor footprint of the property is wider than the top, as the building will taper to a point under the eaves. Often, saltbox roof properties can be three stories, with the top floor being a long, narrow room.

This type of roof and room makes for a lovely guest bedroom. Whether you’re building the property from scratch or converting just the loft portion, add skylights and make for a cosy, snug guest bedroom under the eaves.

No matter what kind of roof you have, or what type of roof you want, adding a loft conversion underneath it will always be a sound investment. Contact Bespoke Lofts for more ideas on roofing and converting your loft space.
